Download/upload help
Some of the ReasonStation users, especially those using Apple Macs, have had problems with downloading and uploading files. Hopefully these answers to frequent questions from PC and Mac users will solve some of your problems with both the song and refill section. If they don't, please email me. Make sure you include information about your system (OS/browser version), and tell me you tried all the options outlined below (otherwise I would probably refer you back to this page which would no doubt piss you off).
When I click on a link to download a Reason file, I get lots
of strange garbled text or a broken quicktime icon in my browser
Apple Mac
This is a problem that only Apple users seem to be experiencing. Especially those who are using Internet Explorer. The reason for this is that IE for the Apple does not recognise the relevant MIME type and therefore tries to open the files in your browser, instead of asking you whether you want to download to disk, or open in Reason.
All users on an Apple using IE should make sure they have configured the file helper correctly for Reason files. You can find a tutorial with the correct config here. Unfortunately, this config does not work for everyone. I have been trying for a long time to find a fix that works for everyone, but have failed sofar. If you have any ideas, or you're on a Mac and have no problem with downloading, let me know.
For now, if you have configured your browser and reason files are still opening in your browser as text or quicktime, I suggest you download the file to disk using control click.
I have downloaded Reason files to disk but they show up as download.php
Apple Mac
When you save files to disk, your browser should prompt you with the correct filename, not "download.php". However, some users have reported that it doesn't in their case. The only things I can suggest at the moment are to make sure you are using the most uptodate version of your browser, and to use a download manager like GetRight, which should pickup the correct filename.
I have downloaded Reason files to disk, but I can't open them by double clicking.
They also don't have the correct Reason icon.
Apple Mac
As with the previous question, make sure you have configured your browser correctly. If that doesn't solve the problem, use a nifty tool from www.peff.com called PropDrop. Just drop the relevant reason files on this application, and it will set the correct filetype. It works with all Reason files.
When I try to open a file in Reason, the error "Bad format" appears
PC/Apple Mac
The infamous badformat error can have a number of causes. If you are still using 1.0, make sure you download the 1.0.1 update from the propellerheads website. Reason 1.0 contains a bug that is causing songs to become corrupted when you use a rex loop or sample with the same name as the song. The bad format bug also appears when you try to open a 1.0.1 file in Reason 1.
Another cause of the bad format message is the result of Apple users that uploaded their files without having applied the correct browser file type configuration. The only thing i can suggest here is that you point these users to this page and the Mac config tutorial.
Users that download my files tell me they are badformat.
Apple Mac & PC
Check out the reasons for the bad format msg above. If you are on an Apple, make sure your browser is configured correctly before uploading.
The refill packs from the refills section won't download correctly.
Apple Mac & PC
ReasonStation does not host any of these files. The refill packs contained in the refill section are links to the files on other websites. If you have any problems with any of those files, please let me know which one you have a problem with and I will investigate.
