Welcome to the beta of Re(ason)Station [19 may 2007]
Four years ago I first indicated that I wanted to do a redesign of reasonstation. The aim was to move on from the design that was implemented at the launch of the site - 30 Jan 2001. And now its finally almost here.
Again a beta
Yes - the old design never got out of beta (see beta 1 in top right hand corner). This is therefore beta 2. Warning: this beta uses the same database as the original site. Therefore any changes you make here will be permanent. Feel free to use this site. When you post, please indicate your operating system and browser.
Please log any issues in the support forum.
A new domain - dropping the "ason" in "Reason"
We have a new domain: www.restation.net. I decided to change the domain because users can share their creations with all Propellerheads products; Reason, Rebirth, Recycle. Until the redesigned site has been fully tested, the old domain will remain active. Once I go live with the new site, the old domain will divert to the new domain.
So whats new...
Apart from the overall design, the following updates are worth mentioning:
- Standards compliant / therefore works best in standards compliant browsers
- Faster page loading
- Submenus relocated to the right sidebar
- Better search - Google search is now better integrated with the overall site design. The search box has been relocated to the right sidebar.
- More google ads - An unfortunate byproduct of reduction in donations is that I need to experiment with more ads and different formats to cover costs!
- Archived news section for each year - this shows you how time flies
- Updated forum home page with latest, most active posts and users.
- Access to each of the forum sections through the right hand side menu bar.
What else needs to be done
Apart from fully testing the full new site design, there are still a number of key changes that need to be made.
This design is a place holder and I will reopen the resign competition we started a long time ago. The winning design will be the final design.
In addition to this, I also want to move to the latest version of the forum software and better integrate this with the whole site.
